Prosthesis Manufacturing

The name Aesculap is synonymous with surgical competence. With over 140 years of experience, Aesculap continues to set standards in surgery. A worldwide network of approximately 9,000 employees, of those approx. 3,000 at the headquarters in Tuttlingen, coordinates its expertise and develops products and solutions for all core processes in surgery. Through consistent research and development Aesculap strives for innovations that bring about medical progress regardless of whether this is related to surgical instruments, suture material, implants or sterile containers.

Managed as a family business and integrated into B. Braun Melsungen AG, the Aesculap division combines tradition and a modern spirit with a wide ranging wealth of experience from more than 40 years in joint endoprosthetics and the continuous further development of high standards.

Located at the Tuttlingen production site is the most modern joint implant manufacturing facility in Europe, where all components for artificial hip and knee joint replacement, spinal column implants and screws, plates and fixation pins for bone fractures are manufactured.

As a result, the name Bicontact®, for example, stands for a leading international endoprosthetic hip stem system, which has been in clinical use for more than 23 years and has provided experience from more than 500,000 implantations. Today almost every fifth hip replacement in Germany bears the Aesculap name.
