Surgical Procedure

   

Surgery can be performed either with partial anesthesia (epidural) or under general anesthesia. The patient will be positioned in either a dorsal or lateral position on the operating table depending upon the access needed.

The individual surgical steps for implanting a total prosthesis with a short hip stem are as follows:
  • Severing and removing the femoral head 
  • Preparing and implanting the acetabular cup 
  • Preparing the femur with bone rasps 
  • Testing the arrangement of the specific implant for the patient 
  • Implanting the prosthetic stem 
  • Combining prosthetic stem with the acetabular cup implant
